The project “Highlights on former Jewish Hamburg” could only be realized thanks to a generous donation received by the Hamburg couple:
“Highlights” presents an exhibition which everybody can visit – step by step or according to any personal choice.
We wish to thank Mr. Dan Allina, who was in charge of the Internet at Bar Ilan University and who supported the project in word and deed in all its initial stages.
The word “exhibition” indicates that we are talking about a large number of pictures. We wish to mention the names of people and institutes who generously assisted us in obtaining a great part of the visual material.
However, writing the names below or beside each picture would create more confusion than a clear overview. Therefore a list is added with the names of the people, who put material – relevant to each “Highlight” – to our disposal.
In case you would like to know the source of a certain picture or to use one or more photos for any other purpose, please proceed as follows (in order not to violate any copyrights):
With the agreement of the owner (of the picture/s), the Carlebach Institute will provide you with written permission to use the picture(s) in question.
The “Highlights” and the Sources of the Pictures
Most pictures belong to the director of the Joseph Carlebach Institute; some were received from the Hamburg archives with the kind help of Mr. Juergen Sielemann.
Most pictures belong to Mr. Alfred Benjamin, California. Some were received from the Katz and the Zahnwirth family, New York, others from Mrs. Frobeen, Hamburg, and the Hamburg Government Archives, with the kind help of Mr. Juergen Sielemann.
We received most of the pictures from Professor Dr. David Nelken, Tel Aviv, and the late Mrs. Alisa Batmur, Kibbuz Kabri, Israel.
Most of the pictures belong to Mr. Alfred Benjamin, California; some belong to the head of the Joseph Carlebach Institute.
All the pictures belong to Mr. Nigel Bobroff, England. He also wrote the story: “One day on the Arandora Star”. Our special thanks are due to him.
Most of the pictures belonged to the late Mr. Werner Flocken, Hamburg, who bequeathed them to the Carlebach Institute. Some documents are owned by the head of the Joseph Carlebach Institute.
All postcards were received from Mrs. Ingeborg Hass, Altona. It was also her idea to illustrate the text with the matching postcards.
All pictures and documents are owned by the director of the Joseph Carlebach Institute. We wish to emphasize that this special “Highlight” was made possible thanks to the financial help of the German Embassy in Tel Aviv.
We wish to express our sincere thanks to them.
Streiflichter aus einem bewegten Leben:
Most pictures were received from Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, New York, whereas others belong to the director of the Joseph Carlebach Institute. Several more photos, including the collages, were provided to us by Mr. Alfred Benjamin, California.
